Story

Follow Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist whose work is built on exposing the transgressions of long-respected institutions. Gary Oldman was originally rumored for the role, but was replaced by Kevin Kline.

Right from the start, the two young people on the train in the first scene are annoying and the mediocre acting continues from there. Even Kevin Kline, who normally can do no wrong in my eyes, seems to be calling it.

The narration is unnatural and has a strange incoherent sound quality to it

It seems like the actors have no idea how they are supposed to play their characters. I assume the narrative is lifted directly from the book, but that doesn't always make sense in the context of the TV show.

Kodi Smit-McPhee mopes around like a wet rag

For example, sometimes the narration is directed at Cate Blanchett's character from her own experience, which is just weird. Sacha Baron Cohen looks out of place and gets weirdly hysterical at times.
