When Ben is reading old newspapers on microfilm in the library, a headline reads "Local Couple Victim of Drunk Driving"
Story
A writer returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to find that the townspeople have been attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem's Lot is to make vampires scary again. He wants to move away from the sexier, more romantic undead that have infested pop culture for much of the past quarter-century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries.
The movie had some decent scares
The newspaper was allegedly printed in 1956, at a time when the term "drunk driving" was not yet in use. References Trog (1970). SundownWritten and performed by Gordon Lightfoot, courtesy of Warner Records, by arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & TV Licensing.
Too many plots were removed, while others were created strangely
The acting was solid, but the plot was rushed and, something I will never understand, they felt the need to rewrite one of the greatest writers of our time. I just wish the story had been developed properly, which is where a series of episodes would have been appropriate. The backstory to the murder in Marsten's house could have had some time too, as it's a fantastic subplot and explanation for why Barlow and Straker choose the house/location.
Do movies still challenge audiences?
Barlow's makeup was beautifully done, so that's something. It seems that is no longer the case. Looking for something different to add to your watchlist?
