Call Mickey Haller

Story

Need a lawyer? He runs his law firm out of his Lincoln and is ready to hit the gas. Moving around Los Angeles, he takes on cases while balancing a private life that includes being a father and having two ex-wives. Originally set with CBS for a series commitment in 2020, it was cancelled just before the first episode was due to film due to COVID.

This has now been picked up by Netflix for a 10-episode first season based on Mickey Haller's second book "The Brass Verdict." Mickey Haller has several cars, all of which have personalized California license plates with legal terms on them. Personalized California license plates allow for a maximum of seven letters/numbers, but all of Mickey's license plates have at least eight. This is an enjoyable first season of the show which is based on the novels by Michael Connelly. The tandem of David Kelley and Ted Humphrey succeeds in bringing to the screen the gritty story of the intelligent defense attorney Mickey Haller, his associates, and his family.

The plot lines are well-conceived and quite entertaining

The viewer identifies with the ups and downs of Haller’s legal career, but one is impressed by his passion for the law and his genuine concern for his clients. The film is able to capture his deep humanity amidst his flaws. Apart from Haller, all the other main characters are relatable: Cisco, Lorna, Maggie, Trevor Elliott, Hayley, and even Detective Griggs. The twists hold the viewer’s attention while the drama resonates.

Bring on Season 2!

In particular, the way Haller is able to unravel the magic bullet, connecting one crime to another, and use it in the trial is ingenious. Serious students of criminal law and procedure will definitely appreciate the law and the free tutorial it offers them. We can’t wait to find out more about the life of Haller and company. The final season of "What We Do in the Shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
