American remake (in English) of the French series HPI (2021)
Story
It follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how, thanks to her exceptional mind, she is able to help solve a crime while reorganizing evidence during her shift as a cleaning lady for the police department. Despite his very high IQ, his excellent memory and his deep knowledge of arcane matters, Morgan makes a number of fundamental legal errors that anyone who has ever watched a law show on television would know not to make. In the first episode, for example, he obtains from a locked safe at the suspect-victim's law office a document that would never be admissible in court: evidence obtained illegally.
At first, I thought it was going to be a comedy in the vein of Psych!
Nor could it be used to obtain other evidence: a violation of the legal doctrine of "fruit of the poisonous tree". In episode 2, he has to be reminded to put on gloves before handling evidence at a crime scene, and in #3, he removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making whatever you removed no longer admissible in court. Remake HPI (2021).
or an absurd comedy like Always Sunny
I mean, the only characters I've seen Kaitlin Olson play are sleazy women with a very caustic sense of humor. If that's what you like about her, don't worry, she definitely brings both qualities to the role. But somehow, she does it with maturity.
and its fraternal twin, The Mentalist
While the first episode is all I've seen so far, it seems to be a similar series to Psych! Olson plays a character with an extremely high IQ who also suffers from a type of OCD, where he obsesses over things that are out of place. He also has a keen sense of observation and uses these quirks to help the local police solve crimes.
This isn’t a crime drama, but it’s not a laugh-out-loud comedy either
It’s a light-hearted cop action series like ABC’s The Rookie and even gives me vibes of the brilliant FX series Rescue Me from the early 2000s. The first episode was enjoyable and I hope the show continues in that vein, with just enough dark humor to make it enjoyable, but not a joke.
